John is a Senior Risk Advisor providing foreign interference and espionage risk reviews, and enhanced due diligence services to multinational corporations, universities, financial institutions, government agencies and hedge funds. John’s unique skills and experience are highly regarded and sought after by the Australian, US and other allied governments.
John’s enhanced international due diligence and foreign interference risk review work relies upon open source material. He assists clients mitigate counterparty risk and trusted insider risk through developing appropriate risk management frameworks and processes to improve the integrity of practices relating to procurement, personnel and international collaboration.
John was previously a financial services lawyer at Hall & Wilcox (1999-2002) and Fairfax’s China correspondent (2007-2013) and Asia-Pacific Editor (2014-2015). He was Senior Advisor to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull (Nov 2015-Aug 2016) and Principal Advisor (International) at the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet where he led the government’s analysis and policy response to authoritarian interference (Sept 2016-June 2017).
