A new cyber-attack is currently being sent via SMS message to many Australians. The attack starts with a text message from MyInfo and asks the user to click a link.
If you click on the link you will be directed to a fake myGov website (the real myGov site is https://my.gov.au) where you will be asked to provide both bank and credit card information.
This scam is designed to have people believe they are required to provide information immediately (the site suggests this must be done by 30 September) and in accordance with an Act. We advise that you delete the SMS and do not click on the link. Some browsers are already reporting the site as unsafe. If you have provided information on this fake site we advise that you immediately contact your bank.
To report Cyber incidents online please contact the Australian Cyber Security Centre at https://www.cyber.gov.au/.
